Wild at heart book father quote12/16/2023 ![]() It can happen when my father or father-in-law triggers it, but it can also happen when a man I look up to or want to get to know more does not seem the least bit interested in me. I feel as though I’m not of worth or interest to a particular person, when nothing I say or do or achieve seems to matter to them. When my father wound is triggered, I suffer in particular a feeling of rejection, as though I don’t really matter. ![]() Often the pain of that wound is triggered throughout life, causing one to feel the same feelings that they felt as a child. Unfortunately, marital and parent-child relationships tend to suffer the most from a father wound that is not properly dealt with. Often, the wound is carried into adulthood and not only affects how the wounded person relates to men, but it can also affect relationships in general. As that child grows, the hurt can be expressed by that child in many different ways, ranging from introversion to anger to all out rage and associated harmful behaviors. The father wound is basically an emotional wound that begins in childhood when fathers cause harm by physical or verbal abuse – or when they do the opposite by not having much or anything to do with their children. I know this concept is discussed in different resources by different people, and might even go by different names, but it was in this book that I found out why I had harbored resentment toward my father for so long, plus how it has played out in my adult life in other relationships. I read a book a few years back entitled “ Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge that discussed the “father wound”.
